Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before reaching out.

How much does custom software cost?

MBOS packages start at $5,000. Custom software builds start at $10,000. Scope and fixed price are agreed in writing before any work begins.

Do I own the software after it's built?

Yes — outright. When you pay for a build, you own the code. We're not a subscription SaaS that can pull the rug out. You can host it yourself, have us host it, or hand it to another developer. There are no ongoing license fees — the only optional recurring cost is hosting (~$100–$200/mo) if you want us to manage the server.

What's the difference between custom software and off-the-shelf SaaS?

SaaS tools like HubSpot or Jobber are built for the average business — you adapt your workflow to fit their product and pay forever. Custom software is built around your exact process. You only pay for features you actually use, you own it outright, and it can be modified as your business grows. The total cost of ownership is usually lower after 2–3 years.

How long does a build take?

Most web app builds are delivered in 4–6 weeks. Broader custom software projects, desktop apps, or builds with heavier integrations typically run 8–12 weeks. We give you a timeline in the proposal and stick to it.

What industries do you work with?

Primarily field service businesses — contractors, HVAC, roofing, plumbing, draft beer service. Also restaurants, salons, freight/logistics, and any small business with a workflow that doesn't fit generic tools. If your team spends time on repetitive manual processes or spreadsheets, we can probably build something better.

What kinds of software do you build?

CRMs, client portals, invoicing and billing systems, dispatch software, field service apps, scheduling tools, business dashboards, internal operations platforms, e-signature systems, and website + software packages. We also build MTOC — our own modular business operating system for small teams.

Do you maintain the software after the build?

Yes. We offer ongoing support plans that cover bug fixes, minor updates, and feature additions. Most clients on hosting plans get priority support included. You're never left holding software with no one to call.

Can I pay in installments?

Yes. We typically structure payments as 50% upfront and 50% on delivery. For larger projects we can split into 3 milestones. We also offer monthly payment plans for clients who prefer to spread the cost — just ask.

What technology do you use?

Next.js, React, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS for the frontend. Node.js, Supabase (PostgreSQL), and serverless functions on the backend. We use proven, modern tools that are well-supported and easy for other developers to maintain if you ever want to take ownership of the codebase.

Are you local to Ohio?

Yes — we're based in Troy, Ohio, serving the greater Dayton and Miami Valley area. We also work with clients remotely across the US. Most of our process is async-friendly, though we're always happy to meet in person for local clients.

What is MTOC?

MTOC (Modular Team Operations Center) is our internal business operating system — built by us, used by us. It's a desktop app for managing leads, clients, billing, users, and operations in one place. We built it because nothing off the shelf fit our workflow. If your business has a similar need, we can build you something similar.
